Mutual Respect: Building a Society That Lives the Golden Rule

Matthew 7:12 says, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” Jeshua’s words are simple, yet profound. And yet, the painful truth is that the majority of men do not live as though this teaching exists. Even among churchgoing, self-proclaimed Christians, some of the most violent and abusive behavior is excused, hidden, or even normalized.

Women are not subservient to men. Girls are not objects created to appease male sexual desire. Children are not lesser beings without dignity. Women and children are people, too — fully deserving of respect, safety, and voice. When women and children are disregarded, belittled, or abused, the entire society is diminished. The spirit, the moral core, the very measure of that society sinks lower.

For women who have endured abuse at the hands of men, there comes a painful clarity: it becomes nearly impossible to tell which men are safe and which are not. When disrespect and violence are so widespread, all men can appear as potential abusers. This is not paranoia — it is the logical outcome of experience in a culture where far too many men use strength to dominate rather than to protect.

But Jeshua’s Golden Rule still calls us forward. Imagine a society where mutual respect is the foundation:

  • Equality, not hierarchy. Men and women as partners, not masters and subordinates.
  • Strength used for protection, not domination. Power turned toward safety, not fear.
  • Children honored as people. Their voices valued, their dignity intact.
  • Truth and accountability. No more hiding behind religion, titles, or institutions while causing harm.

A community shaped by this vision would feel like rest under a tree’s shade on a hot day — safe, peaceful, and restorative. Women would no longer carry the weight of constant vigilance. Men would no longer be pressured to prove themselves by dominance. Children would grow into adults who see respect as the most natural way to live.

Liberty cannot thrive where women and children are treated as less. Prosperity cannot flourish where half the population is kept in fear. Our renewal as a nation depends on rejecting the false idea that domination is strength, and reclaiming Jeshua’s call to mutual respect as the true measure of human worth.
